Republic of Haiti occupies one third of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola and also includes many smaller islands. Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. The total area of Haiti is 10,714 square miles and its capital is Port-au-Prince.
A former French colony, Haiti was to become the first independent black republic, and the only nation ever having a successful slave revolt. Haiti became the second independent country in the Americas after the United States when it declared its independence on January 1, 1804.
Haiti has recently undergone a state of transition following an uprising which forced President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to resign on February 29, 2004. Rene Preval was elected president in his place on February 7, 2006 and took office in May.
Adoption Pros works in Haiti through the Child’s Hope Foundation. We place children from Haiti orphanages into pre-approved loving families in the United States. Children available for adoption are infants, toddlers, older children, and sibling groups.
There are many advantages in adopting from Haiti. The country is situated so close to the United States: you only fly a couple of hours out of Miami. There is an option of having your child escorted to Florida or even your home, if the situation in Haiti is too unstable for the families to visit. There are no religious requirements for adoptive families. The adoption normally is completed in about 9 to 12 months.
To prepare for your international adoption, Adoption Pros, will assign a Haiti case manager to you, who will assist you in preparing all the necessary paperwork, called “dossier”. When finished, your dossier is sent to Haiti for processing and finalization of your adoption. e available to you by email and phone throughout the adoption, until your bundle of joy is safely and happily in your arms.
Child Referral
You will have an access to a Haiti Child Referral web page as soon as you finish your home study and receive favorable recommendation to adopt! After you accept a referral, you will receive periodic updates on your child’s development. This usually happens before and after your dossier is sent to Haiti. Until a child's file and your dossier are joined together in Haiti for the adoption the child you have selected through the Haiti Child Referral web page is considered “a soft match”. The child is held for you, but not considered a “hard match” until Adoption Pros sends your fully authenticated and translated dossier to Haiti.
